Interra

Online Banking User Guide, System Features & Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Interra Online banking provides members an enhanced and user-friendly online banking experience. With Interra Online banking, traditional online banking functionality meets personal financial management tools like budget management, spending analysis and the ability to assess total net worth.

It is a robust and intuitive system. Don’t let that intimidate you, because you’re in charge. You can choose to use it for the “basics” or for the more enhanced features. It’s all up to you!

What if I have problems accessing Interra Online, questions about the service or need more information?

  • Click on the Help tab within Interra Online banking
  • Chat with a representative during regular business hours
  • Call Interra at 574.534.2506 or 888.432.2848
  • Visit any Interra office

How much does it cost to use Interra Online banking?
It’s free!

How current is the information I obtain through Interra Online banking?
It is real-time, meaning the information available to you through Interra Online is the exact information stored on our computer system at the time you login.

What browsers are compatible with Interra Online banking?

Please note: Google Chrome does not work with the Interra Bill Pay and Visa Online services. We do not recommend using America Online, Netscape Navigator, nor MSN and cannot guarantee proper operation of the Interra Online banking service while using them.

Security

How secure is Interra Online banking?

  • Interra uses the most advanced internet security systems available for the online banking platform.
  • When you enter Interra Online banking, you are entering a secure site, with all information encrypted or encoded.
  • The multi-level login procedure – multi-factor authentication (MFA) – is another safeguard against unauthorized users accessing your data—only you will know your user name, password, and security question. MFA represents a more secure way to protect your personal information than merely relying upon a single password.
  • In addition, the system records the date and time of the last login attempt.

Registration

How do I register or re-register?

First-time users, including users who used Interra’s previous online banking system, must complete an easy one-time registration process by following the on-screen prompts.  It’s an easy 4-step process that will only take about 3-5 minutes.

Step 1:  To confirm your identity, you will be asked to verify the following:

  • Member Number (six or seven digits)
  • Last four digits of the primary member’s Social Security Number (SSN).  Businesses/organizations use the last four digits of the EIN.
  • Birthdate (MM/DD/YYYY format).  For businesses/organizations, this is the date the account was established at Interra.

After you have reviewed the disclosures, you will be asked to type “YES,” agreeing to the terms and conditions.

Step 2: Next you will be prompted to create a username and a password.

You now have the ability to access all of your unique member numbers with one username and password.  Just complete the multi-account access authorization form and fax, mail or deliver it to any Interra office.

Below are a few guidelines for usernames within online banking:

  • NOT case sensitive
  • May not be the same as the member number or password
  • Must be between 6 and 20 characters long
  • Must start with a letter
  • May only contain numbers and letters (i.e. no special characters such as ?!$@)

There are also some guidelines for passwords as well such as:

  • IS case sensitive
  • May not be the same as the member number or username
  • Must be between 8 and 20 characters
  • Must contain at least 1 number
  • May contain letters, numbers and the following characters ~!@#$%^&*+=

Step 3: Select and answer three (3) challenge questions from the list provided.

Why? As a security feature, one of these questions will be presented to you when you access a computer that Interra Online banking does not recognize.

You may notice the security questions available to choose from are not necessarily "easy" to answer.  This is because these questions are meant to prevent others without authorization from accessing your account.  Most answers that are "easy" to recall are likely easy for others to figure out, too, because of the information age we live in.  Google, questionnaires distributed via e-mail and sites with personal profiles, like Facebook, may inadvertently reveal the answers to common questions.  Please be assured that the questions are not meant to confuse or annoy you; rather, to offer you the best security protection available, based on best practices.

Step 4: You will create a security phrase and select a security image from the gallery.

You will presented with these items each time you login to Interra Online banking to ensure the authenticity of the session.  There are several pages with images to choose from. Just click on Next to the left of the first image to see additional picture options.

That’s it!  You’re ready to sign in to Interra Online banking.

How do I sign in?

1. There are two ways you can sign into online banking:

  • You can login from the homepage by entering your username and pressing the Submit button.

  • If you bookmark/add online banking to your favorites, then you will enter your username on the sign in screen and then click the Sign In button.

Notice the helpful options at the bottom of the screen:  Sign In, Register, Forgot Username?, Forgot Password?, Forgot Answers?, Forgot Everything? and Locked?

2. The Sign In screen shows the image and security phrase you have selected. You will also enter your password on this screen.

3.  The final step in the login process is to answer the security challenge question.

Once you hit the Next button you will be logged into online banking!

What is the ‘Remember Computer’ option?

Choose this option only if the computer you are using is a private device (i.e. not public like a library or internet café).   If you select Yes, you will not be prompted to answer a challenge question in subsequent visits unless the cookies are deleted.  Therefore, once you submit your password on the previous screen and click Next you will be logged into online banking, skipping this screen altogether for future logins.

  • The first time, you will be asked to review and accept disclosure information.
  • The welcome screen has a payoff request option.
  • Other screens include payment information, loan balances, payment history, payment options (not active) and general account information

Can I get credit card information?

Search

You will find a search box at the top of many pages throughout Interra Online.

How does the Search feature work?
One of the most well known and highly used sites on the internet today is, of course, Google. It has really changed the way people look for information on the internet. Within online banking, search is also very important and is the centerpiece of the application. This powerful search engine enables you to enter basic information, using natural language, and online banking will show results, based on the search criteria.

  • Finding transactions is fast and easy; just try some of these example searches:
    • Search by Date
      • EX: Last month, Yesterday, 08/15/2011, etc.
    • Search by Amount
      • EX: $100, about $320 or over $240
    • Search by Description, Memo, Notes, Flags, or Check Number
      • EX: Kroger, iPad, or Check#450
    • Search by Category
      • EX: DiningOut, Transportation or HouseholdSupplies
    • Combined search
      • EX: Housing around 600
  • If you enter the term "transfer" into the search box, for example, online banking will return a list of results that match the criteria.

  • You can also enter in multiple key words.  For instance, if you want to look for a transaction that is around $150 at Kroger, simply enter "Kroger around 150".

  • If search is initiated from the Accounts page, online banking will search across all accounts, including third party financial institutions, if you have added their information into online banking.

What is the search guide?
To make it even easier for you, online banking comes with a helpful search guide. Just click on the How do I search? link next to the search box. This tool provides useful information on what type of terms to use to search through transaction history.

How do I clear my search?
If you want to clear your search and start a brand new search, click the Clear button. The transactions will appear in chronological order once again and allow you to start with new searches.

What if I search for something and don’t get any results?
There are a number of different reasons this might have occurred. Take note of the following possibilities:

  • Is the spelling correct?
  • Are the dates formatted correctly?
  • There might not be a transaction that matches the search.

What does make this search an alert mean?

Transactions

What’s in the Transaction section?
The transactions section lists all of the transactions that online banking manages for you. Transactions are listed in chronological order with the newest transactions listed first.

What information is on theTransactions page?

  • Edit Individual transactions to modify categories, add notes, or flag for future review.
  • View cleared check images.
  • Use the Search box to find specific transactions within an account

What are the two versions of transaction history?

  • Transactions for all accounts: if you click on the transactions link in the main menu, you will see a list of transactions across all of your accounts (in chronological order). This is a convenient way to see an abbreviated chronological view of your transaction activity regardless of account. Your savings, checking and loan account transactions are all listed in this view. You can also get to this view by searching from the accounts page.
  • Transactions for a single account: if you click on an account in the account page, you will be taken to a list of transactions for that particular account. This is more like the traditional transaction view that you may have been accustomed to in online banking.

What information can I view for each transaction?

  • Date of transaction (when cleared through Interra)
  • Age of transaction
  • Flag (you can flag transactions; this helps them stand out in case you need to follow up later)
  • Category (you can place your transactions into meaningful categories, like grocery, phone bill, etc)
  • Description
  • Notes (you can add meaningful notes to each transaction, like “returned this item since it did not work”)
  • Account balance (note that loan accounts usually have a negative balance, meaning you owe money)
  • Amount (with a red or green bar showing the relative size of the transaction)

Edit feature: You have the option to edit each transaction by clicking the icon. This includes placing the transaction into a specific category, adding notes to a transaction, or even flagging a transaction.

How can I automatically run a search?
Another feature in online banking is the ability to click on any of the attributes of a transaction and to automatically run a search.
For example, if you click on the category of a transaction such as Automobile, online banking would search across the entire transactions list and return only the transactions listed under the ‘Automobile’ category.

Why do I only see a few transactions?
You may have inadvertently executed a search by clicking an item in the transaction history. Press the clear button to view transactions for all accounts.

Can I view different types of transaction history?
If you click on a specific account (i.e.,Checking) the transaction history will only display the history for that specific account. If you click the Transaction header, you will view all transactions across all accounts entered into online banking.

    • A minimum of $5.00 is needed to fund the new account , by transferring at least that much from another Interra account.

e-Alerts

Online banking comes equipped with a powerful notifications engine that notifies the user in a number of ways including email and SMS/text message. One of the best ways for users to track their finances is to be aware, and alerts provide a useful tool to accomplish that.

What are the two kinds of alerts?
There are two types of alerts:

  • Standard Alerts – These alerts are built into online banking and provide a set of commonly used alerts. They are turned off by default, but can be activated by:
    • Clicking on add alert at the top of the page
    • Select an alert type – balance, transaction, document, sign in or message.
  • Custom Alerts –  These are alerts that you create, typically if none of the standard alerts is what you are looking for.

How can I receive my e-Alerts?
You can pick and choose any combination of delivery mechanisms; it’s completely up to you.

For example, you may choose to receive e-mail alerts for all transactions regardless of amount, but for transactions over $200, or ATM transactions, you may choose to receive SMS/text alerts as well.

How do I create customized alerts?

  • To create your own customized alerts, simply execute a search (i.e. over 500).
  • After the search is complete it will show a link that says Make this search an alert.
  • From that point forward, anytime a transaction matches the specified criteria, an alert will be delivered in the desired format.

What do I have to do to get e-mail and/or SMS/text alerts?

  • Make sure to go to your profile and enter your e-mail and/or cell phone number, based on your delivery preferences.
  • When you select to receive e-mail alerts, the entire alert message will be delivered to the e-mail address you have provided in your profile.
  • SMS/text alert messages may be abbreviated to the restricted amount of characters that can be displayed in a text message (160 characters). The message will be sent to the mobile number set up in your profile, including the carrier address (i.e. 5745555555@vtext.com).

e-Documents

What are e-Documents?
Online banking provides a central and secure location for storage of your financial documents and statements. If you are like many consumers, you download all your credit card and financial statements as PDFs, then you store these files away on your home computer in a special folder. Here are some questions to consider: 1) If your computer crashes, do you have a backup of your documents? 2) Is storing this information on your home computer really secure? And 3) What if you need to access your statements or related documents when you are away from home?

Within the e-Documents tab, you can store statements and related documents remotely and securely simply by uploading them to online banking. In addition, you can enter specific notes to yourself (like big camera purchase), and these notes become searchable.

How do I upload a document?
Uploading a document is easy and similar to adding an attachment to an e-mail:

  • Click the link
  • Give the document a name and browse to find the specific document.
  • Click the upload button to complete the process.

Why can’t I upload a document?

  • It may be the size of the document, as each document is limited to 3 MB.
  • Check the format, as the following are acceptable: doc, docx, txt, csv, xls, or xlsx.
  • Number of document uploads: You are limited to 10 per month.

What is the take notes option?
Your personal notebook helps you stay organized. If you need to jot down a note about a donation to charity, a charge dispute with your credit card company, or a billing question with your insurance, the Notebook is the place to do it. By adding entries (pages) to your notebook, you are creating a permanent, private, searchable area for your financial related notes.

  • When you input notes, click the ‘back’ button to return to the e-documents page.
  • You can title something in your “notebook,” create the body/text, and then ‘tag’ it. The ‘suggested tags’ include: personal, finance, tax and retirement.

What is the Actions column for?
The Actions column allows the user to delete the document, download or access the document or to edit the document (name, notes, tags, date, etc.)

How do some documents appear automatically?
e-Statements, loan documents, and disclosures can also appear automatically in the e-Documents section.  These documents (if applicable) will be loaded into online banking automatically via the credit union systems.

Why would I use the message option?

  • You have the option to send a message to Interra. Just click on send message and a screen comes up, allowing you to create and send a message.
  • You have the option to retain and sort your messages.
  • An incoming message would likely be a response to a message you sent to Interra.

How can I archive documents?
The Documents page allows you to store and archive electronic documents, remotely and securely, simply by uploading them into online banking.

  • Examples of documents are credit card and account statements or scanned documents like your passport or loan paperwork.
  • You can add specific Notes to each Document to create an online, personal record with details about your accounts or transactions. And, you can search Notes to find specific information you may be looking for.

Not only does the Documents feature keep your information safe and secure, it also allows you access to this information from anywhere, as long as you are logged into Interra Online banking.

Reports

What are reports?
Reports provide you with an overall view of where your money is going, including the ability to view the results graphically.

What does the monthly income/expense show me?

  • Your income and expenses are categorized for you.
  • You can view the report by year, quarter, month, week or day
  • You can have the report graphed.

Categories

What are transaction categories?
The Categories page, within the Reports tab, allows you to manage your income and expense categories, together with the monthly budgets for each category.

  • At startup, you are provided a default set of categories, including the basics, like Grocery, Dining Out, and Bills/Phone.
  • When you are in the transaction view, you can click on the icon to place the transaction into a particular category.

Helpful hint: It is suggested that you start with the default categories, and over time, slowly add/delete/change the categories to match your personal preferences. It can save you a lot of time in the the long run.

How do I assign transaction categories?
Categories allow you to assign a description to various expense and income groups. You will be able to monitor your spending habits, identifying what you spend eating out, buying groceries, maintaining an automobile, etc.

  • You can create a Budget for each Category to further track your spending habits and compare them to your Budget goals.
  • A default list of Categories is provided in Interra Online Banking and many Transactions will be automatically placed into Categories.
  • If a Transaction is not assigned a Category, just click Edit next to the Transaction and manually choose the proper Category from the dropdown list.
Credit card and debit card transactions are most likely to be auto-categorized because these transactions have the best descriptions.
    • For example: Auto-categorization works by comparing theTransaction description/memo to the list of rules defined for each Category. If a Transaction has the word "Starbucks" in the description, this will match the rule "Starbucks" in the “Dining Out” Category. You can enhance the list of rules for each Category simply by editing that Category and changing the list of rules.

What are Key Word Rules?
Another way of easily managing your categories is to input key word rules. For example, to ensure that all your transactions with Farm Bureau Insurance are categorized as Transportation, you can simply edit the category and input FarmBureau in the key word rules. Moving forward, all your bill pay or debit card payments to Farm Bureau Insurance will be categorized under Transportation.

As a user, you can also select a few categories to be favorite, which make those particular categories easier to view.

What are the two ways to get a more detailed spending report?

  1. By clicking the specific category (i.e. Automobile), online banking will find all the transactions that match the category. The transaction history will display all of the spending that ever occurred.
  2. If a user wants to see more details view of spending in a category for a specific month (i.e. Automobile spending in November), the user will click the amount and online banking will display all the transaction in that category for that month.
    • By clicking on the icon under the actions column, you will go to a bar graph view of your spending, which compares the monthly spending in a specific category over the course of the year.
    • By hovering over a specific month, you can see the exact amount you spent in that category.
    • By clicking on a bar in the graph, you will go to a listing of that specific month’s spending in that category. In essence, online banking will do a search to match that criterion.

The budget is symbolized by the yellow bar that stretches across the entire graph. You can also manually update their budget from this screen by clicking the Adjust Budget link at the bottom of the page.

You can also see a pie chart for all of your spending in a specific month.

  • Click the icon next to the name of the month. You will see all the categories in a pie chart view.
  • By hovering over a slice of the pie, you can discern the exact amount of spending in that category for the month, together with what percentage of your spending made up that category.

When you click on a selected section of the pie chart, online banking will run a search for the spending of that category in that month (i.e. Automobile spending in November)

You can also view your cash flow graphically over the course of the year, by month, by clicking the Cash Flow link. The Green bar is symbolic of cash coming into the account, while the red bar is symbolic of cash expenses going out of the account.

You also have the ability to track the net worth over a period of time in a graphical format by clicking the link titled Net Worth. This is a total of all the assets entered into online banking.

By default, the spending graphs will show data for all accounts that have been inputted into online banking. In order to filter down to a specific account, there is a convenient drop down box available on each page that displays a graph.

Dashboard/Widgets

What is a dashboard?
The Dashboard provides a convenient way to view the information you care about most in one place. Think of it like an iGoogle, PageFlakes, or Netvibes like portal, but for all your financial data.

How do I view a dashboard?
The Dashboard tab gives you an at-a-glance overview of your account and activity through a compilation of widgets that you choose.

  • Arrange the widgets on-screen by dragging and dropping them for the view that best suits your needs.
  • You can even export certain widgets to personal web portals, such as iGoogle or NetVibes, to have easy access to your Interra account information when not logged in to online banking.

What are widgets?
A relatively new type of technology, widgets have become wildly popular. The best way to think of a widget is like a mini website that shows a small piece of functionality.

How do I use a widget?
With a widget, you have the ability to create a customized view of your financial data. You can move and organize your widgets by simply ‘dragging and dropping’ each one into the desired location.

  • The Dashboard comes preloaded with some preliminary widgets.
  • You can then customize your preferences by selecting a widget from the drop down menu and clicking the ‘Add’ button.
  • By default, the widget will be placed in the upper left column.

What widgets are available?
There are several different widgets available such as:

  • Balances
  • Transactions
  • Documents
  • Category Spending (Graph)
  • Cash Flow (Graph)
  • Assets
  • Net Worth (Graph)
  • List of attempted sign ins
  • General usage statistics

Can I customize information in the widget?
Any time you want to customize the information displayed within the widget, click the  icon to specify the selected information (i.e. Starbucks transactions or the spending in the Transportation category) and dictate how much information you want to display by inputting the count.

How do I delete a widget?

  1. To delete a widget, select the X icon.
  2. You will be prompted with a message that asks if you are sure.
  3. If you select yes, the widget will be deleted from the Dashboard.
