Interra Credit Union Appoints Michael Varner as Vice President, Commercial Banking Development Officer

January 5, 2026—Randy Lehman, Head of Commercial Lending, is pleased to welcome Michael Varner as Vice President, Commercial Banking Development Officer to the Commercial Lending Department at Interra Credit Union. Varner brings decades of experience in financial services and a strong commitment to community engagement. In his new role, he will focus on leveraging his extensive background in accounting and tax planning to help local businesses achieve their goals, while fostering relationships that align with Interra’s mission of serving members and strengthening communities.

Varner’s career spans more than 30 years in public accounting, including his tenure at Kruggel, Lawton & Company, where he joined in 2005 and was elected partner in 2007. Among his many accomplishments, Varner created and led the firm’s annual CFO Summit, a highly regarded event that provides continuing education and networking opportunities for CPAs in private industry. His experience working closely with family-owned businesses and guiding succession planning will be invaluable as he helps Interra members navigate complex financial decisions.

Varner earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Virginia. He is also a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Indiana, bringing a strong technical foundation to his new role at Interra.

Community involvement has always been a cornerstone of Varner’s professional and personal life. He serves on the board of Stable Grounds in Middlebury, is a member of Goshen Noon Kiwanis, and actively participates in organizations such as the American Institute of CPAs and the Indiana CPA Society. Interra’s deep commitment to community was a major factor in his decision to join the team. “Community means investing in people and creating opportunities for growth,” he said. “I’m excited to continue serving and making a positive impact alongside Interra.”

Varner resides in Middlebury, Indiana with his wife, Chelsea. They have four adult children—Derek, Mason, Taryn, and Ian. Outside of work he enjoys golfing, biking, photography, and travel. He is also passionate about mentoring young people and giving back to the community in meaningful ways.
