Interra’s Hometown Giving Project Raises Almost $45,000

Interra Credit Union, its staff and members raised almost $45,000 to a variety of agencies across a five-county area during the 25th annual Hometown Giving holiday service project. Another record-setting year, it represents a $3,500 increase over last year.

January 23, 2019 – Interra Credit Union, its staff and members raised almost $45,000 to a variety of agencies across a five-county area during the 25th annual Hometown Giving holiday service project. Another record-setting year, it represents a $3,500 increase over last year.

The Hometown Giving project included a corporate donation of $25,000, staff fundraisers added almost $10,000 and members and staff donated almost $6,500 through the Merry Match initiative. Interra’s staff also helped raise funds for the Goshen Salvation Army and the Plymouth Salvation, donating more than 55 hours of volunteer time to ring bells and raising more than $2,325. A sponsored blood drive in December resulted in 129 donated pints of blood and a $1,290 donation for the St. Joe Valley Blue Star Mothers.

The donations and funds raised resulted in more than $41,000 donated to agencies throughout Interra’s footprint. In addition, hundreds of boxes of Giving Tree wish list items have been distributed as additional support to the agencies and organizations that help those in need. Interra sponsored and staff members volunteered to host parties at five youth organizations, shopped for adopt-a-families at nine organizations, participated in a work night at Soup of Success and filled backpacks at Bremen’s Blessings in a Bag.

The recipients of the money raised and the wish list items collected included:

Elkhart County – ADEC, Bashor Children’s Home, Boys and Girls Clubs – Goshen, Elkhart, Nappanee and Middlebury; Cancer Resources of Elkhart County, CAPS, Center for Healing and Hope, Soup of Success, Council on Aging, Safe Haven Women’s Shelter, Fairfield Food Pantry, Family Christian Development Center, Salvation Army, Five Little Stones, The Post, RETA, Spa Women’s Ministry, Together We Rise, Wakarusa Elementary School, WaNee Wishing Well and The Window.

LaGrange County – Agape House, ARC Opportunities, Elijah Haven and the Clothes and Food Basket.

Ligonier – Lighthouse Day Care Ministry and the Ligonier Fire Department.

Syracuse – Lakeland Youth Center and the Syracuse Food Pantry.

Marshall County – Cardinal Services, Boys and Girls Club of Bremen, Blessings in a Backpack, Heminger House and Salvation Army.

The St. Joe Valley Chapter of Blue Star Mothers covers multiple counties within Interra’s service area.
