What is a Tech Support Scam?

A tech support scam is a form of internet fraud that implements social engineering and fear tactics in order to get the victim to take the bait. There are three main ways this scam is executed:

  1. Cold calls
  2. Pop-up messages on the computer or other device
  3. Incorrect search engine results

Social engineering is the act of tricking someone into divulging information or taking action, usually through technology.
